Messy Church message – Shiny Penny

IMG_5729.jpg

Hope you are well on this dull and rainy day. Hoping for a brighter week ahead. Here is a message from Rev Delphine and an activity for you to try at home.

Shiny Penny Activity

We thought that you might like to create a Memory Box to remember our dear late Queen Elizabeth II. We’ve used a coin showing the Queen’s head and made it shiny by dipping it in ‘cola’ – its amazing how bright and shiny the coin becomes!An old jewellery container is fill with some tissue paper and the shiny coin is placed inside and the lid put on and there you have your Memory Box. You could also decorate the box with crowns and jewels to add the finishing touches.

Message from Rev Delphine

I hope you like preparing your Messy Shiny Penny and find a box to keep it safe.

It will remind you of our late Queen, but also will be a reminder of Jesus who shines through all the dark days. Jesus is known as the “Light of the World”.at Christenings and at Easter we light a special Candle called a “Paschal Candle” to remind us of Jesus by that name.

We are coming up to Halloween which can be great fun but can also be quite spooky. We need never be afraid just open your box and that penny will shine as Jesus shines. There is a hymn, “Shine Jesus Shine” All Saints’ School know it well – it is their school song. The chorus goes:

‘Shine, Jesus, Shine,

Fill this land with the Father’s glory

Blaze, Spirit, Blaze,

set our hearts on fire.

Flow, river, flow,

flood the nations with grace and mercy;

Send forth your word, Lord,

And let there be light.’

Looking AheadPlease note your diary that the Messy Church Christingle will be on 24th December, Christmas Eve, at 2pm at St James Church, Acton Trussell, where you can have fun making a Christingle orange and sing carols to get you in the mood for Christmas. Hope you’ll be able to join us for this very popular event.

Best wishes from
