Message from Rev Delphine
Have you heard of the Church Festival PENTECOST ( Pente means 50 ) – read on for the story of Pentecost, which we celebrate on 5th June.Jesus had left the disciples to return to Heaven and He promised them a special present that would help them share His story. Well, it was 50 days after Easter, and the disciples were waiting for this present in a room in Jerusalem – all feeling scared they might be arrested for being Jesus’ friend. Suddenly there was a sound like a rushing wind, and tongues of fire appeared above each of their heads. No burnt fringes, it was a special fire that seemed to fill their hearts with courage – this was the HOLY SPIRIT, the present Jesus had promised, and they ran out into the busy streets, talking ten to the dozen about Jesus. Now, it was a special Jewish festival day, and Jerusalem was full of Jews from all over the world, so they spoke many different languages, but the incredible thing was that the disciples were able to make themselves understood by everybody. That day was the Church’s Birthday, so at Pentecost we get to celebrate!!! It was the start of an amazing way that God allows us to serve and love each other. And that is the truly exciting thing….. Once we are “on fire” and have received the light of Jesus we can take that to other people and light up their lives as well. God wants us to share His story and His love with the WHOLE world. It only takes a spark or a single candle to get others going, so, let’s celebrate, and let’s share with one another! And on Sunday 5th June – alongside your Jubilee flags and bunting – put your Pentecost balloon in a place that everyone can see, and spread the good news of Jesus. Prayer : Thank you, God, for Your church. I am glad to be part of your family. Help me to share Your love, and tell others about Jesus. I love You, God! Thanks for loving me. In Jesus’ name, AMEN
Activity – Pentecost Balloon
This is a quick and easy way to celebrate Pentecost – all you need to start is a bright red balloon, the bigger the better. Make a white dove shape from paper and stick it on the balloon with red, orange and yellow tail feathers to represent the tongues of fire that Rev Delphine mentioned. Then tie on some red crepe paper streamers and attach to a garden cane and stick in an earth filled plant pot and watch your Pentecost balloon blow in the wind and spread the good news of Jesus.
Date for your diary
The next Messy Church meeting will be at the Community Centre, Acton Trussell
on Saturday 9th July at 12 noon until 2pm. The theme is Messy Superheroes and we will probably be looking like Superheroes ourselves, making masks, cuffs and shields but lets keep some surprises – just put the date in your diary now!
Best wishes from
Eleanor, Delphine and the Acton & Bednall Messy Church Team
