Helping wildlife during the hot weatheHelping wildlife during the hot weather

Here are 6 ways we can help wildlife during the hot weather (info from A Rocha UK):

💧Leave out fresh water – A shallow dish of clean water can be a lifeline for birds, bees, hedgehogs, and other wildlife. Add a few small stones that create a landing spot for insects to drink safely.

🐦 Keep feeding wildlife appropriately – Dry weather reduces natural food sources, so birds and hedgehogs will appreciate a little extra help.

🌾 Let your grass grow – Longer grass retains moisture, keeps the ground cooler, and provides shelter for insects and small mammals.

🌳 Don’t prune hedges – Trees, shrubs, and hedges create shade and help wildlife escape the heat.

🌸 Water wisely – Use a watering can instead of a hose (some areas are operating hopepipe bans) and prioritise flowering plants and fruit trees, which provide food for pollinators and birds.

🍂 Add mulch – A layer of organic mulch helps the soil retain moisture, reduces watering needs, and improves soil health.

Small actions like these can make a big difference, helping to create a more resilient habitat for wildlife during hot, dry weather.
