I am pleased to inform you that a full draft of the new Housing and Homelessness Strategy for South Staffordshire has now been published for public consultation. Over the period 2023-27, we aim to ensure that everyone in South Staffordshire is able to afford a home that is suitable for them, whether it be on the open market, or through a local Registered Provider. The refreshed strategy confirms the Council’s significant enabling role in providing housing and ensuring individuals in need of assistance with their housing options or facing homelessness receive timely and practical advice. An update to the strategy has also provided the opportunity to recognise the important role of the district’s housing stock in the environment, and more specifically, the climate change agenda.
In order to achieve this, the strategy is focused around four key priorities:
- Ensure the right types of housing are provided in the right locations to meet local need
- Strengthen the role of both the district’s existing and new housing stock in addressing the Climate Change Emergency
- Adapt existing homes and futureproof new homes to positively contribute to the health, wellbeing and independence of residents
- Prevent and alleviate homelessness
Please note, whilst the strategy does link in with the Local Plan, it is a separate strategic document setting out what housing issues the district faces and how we plan to address them over the next five years.
The draft strategy can be viewed via the Council website – click here to visit the relevant page. We would welcome any comments or feedback you have on the strategy. Please provide these via email to housingstrategy@sstaffs.gov.uk.
The consultation period will close at 12pm on Wednesday 26 October. All comments received by this deadline will be reviewed and relevant changes made to the strategy where appropriate. We will then be bringing forward the strategy for formal adoption by the Council by the end of the year.
Many thanks and we look forward to receiving any comments in due course.
Kind Regards
Grant Mitchell
