Village Traffic Speed Update
Apologies everybody it has been a while since we updated where we are to try and introduce traffic calming measures.
Speed Display Units;
We have agreement with highways to set up 4 fixed point speed display units with highways. However we have to wait for Highways to provide licensees to install them, we have been waiting and chasing now for 5 months!!
20 is plenty
In conjunction with the Speed display units we are now also in the consultation stages of assessing changing the speed limits from 30mph to 20 mph where applicable.
We have attended virtual meetings and I have to say I was a doubter that a change to speed limits would have an impact, but it has now been proven that a change to 20mph really does impact for the better the behaviours of drivers and it has been clearly evidenced that over all speed averages have reduced.
If a car hits you at 20 mph and not 30 mph it can be the difference literally between surviving an accident or not!!!
As a parish council we would strongly recommend that we agree to this change and throw our support behind the 20 is plenty campaign.
This is where we need your help please;
As part of the consultation we need to evidence as a Parish Council that we have a majority of residents across the Parishes in support.
Could we ask that you take literally 2 minutes of your time and click on the link below and complete a very short and easy questionnaire to help us show the powers that be that we as a majority in the Parish are behind the need to address speeding traffic through our villages. https://batth.co.uk/parish-council
As a parish council we are doing all we can but i’m afraid the wheels grind slowly when it comes to progressing these matters….but we maintain our nagging and chasing and sooner or later we will get where we need to be.
All my very best
